The Ghana Police Service have arrested Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, parents of 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, the driver involved in a fatal car crash that claimed two lives at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
According to a police statement, preliminary investigations revealed that Elrad, while driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20 and carrying one passenger, crashed into an Acura 4×4 vehicle with registration number GR 2542-23, driven by Joseph Ackah, along with four other occupants, on Mensah Wood Street, East Legon. Both vehicles caught fire and were completely destroyed.
The police further stated that three of the five passengers in the Acura were rescued from the accident, while two, identified as 12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, tragically lost their lives. Two of the rescued victims sustained minor injuries and have since been treated and discharged, while the third remains in the hospital receiving medical care.
The suspect driver and his passenger were also rescued and are currently hospitalized.
In the aftermath of the accident, a delegation from the Police Management Board, led by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved families on October 15, 2024, to offer condolences and also checked on the injured victims at the hospital.
