Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has revealed that the Black Stars spent $5.1m at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
The sports minister was speaking on the floor of parliament on Tuesday, December 21, 2022, and said though the estimated budget for the group stage participation for the nation was $ 8.1 million, the total expenditure was $5.1m.
“Mr. Speaker, you may recall that before Ghana participated in the World Cup, I informed this house that our estimated budget at the group stage was 8,166, 200. 00 million US Dollars.
“Out of this estimated budget Mr. Speaker, our total expenditure for the group stage participation amounted to 5,171, 840 US Dollars.
“These expenditures covered appearance fee, per diem, flight arrangements, medicals, equipment logistics, and hospitality.”
He added that the money that is left after the Black Stars was eliminated was due to the prudent management of his ministry.
“Mr. Speaker, the reason for the surplus of $3 million after our exit from the group stage, is as the result of the ministry’s prudent management of resources as well as the ministry’s decision to negotiate on qualification bonus for the next round instead of paying winning bonuses per match.”
