The Ghana national football team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to the Germany national football team in an international friendly played in Stuttgart on Monday, March 30.
The result compounds Ghana’s recent struggles, coming just days after a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria national football team on Friday, March 27.
Germany opened the scoring deep into first-half stoppage time when Kai Havertz converted from the penalty spot in the 45+3rd minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The Black Stars responded strongly in the second half, drawing level in the 70th minute through Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who finished off an assist from Dennis Kohn to make it 1-1.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Germany struck late to secure victory. In the 88th minute, Deniz Undav found the back of the net following a setup by Leroy Sané, sealing a 2-1 win for the hosts.
Despite the defeat, Ghana showed improved organisation and attacking intent compared to their previous outing, but defensive lapses and missed opportunities proved costly once again.
The back-to-back losses will raise concerns for the technical team as they continue preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures, with the need to tighten defensive discipline and improve consistency becoming increasingly evident.
