Some supporters of the Black Stars who are in Côte d’Ivoire have been paid their per diem after they threatened to return home.
A reported $400 has been given to the approximately 300 fans who traveled to Côte d’Ivoire to support the team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
According to Daniel Nyomoh, a journalist close to the supporter’s base in Ivory Coast who confirmed the news to Citi Fm on Tuesday, despite the frustrations among the supporters last Monday, they are now content and ready to cheer the team in Thursday’s match against Egypt.
“There is good news. Yesterday around midnight, most of us went to sleep before the officials came and they came to call and in fact give us what we are due as in per diem. So the issues have been resolved now and everything is back to normalcy,” he said.
Asked how much was given to each person, he said “Each person was given $400 but as to whether it was same across all the other supporters in other hotels, I am not aware.”
The Black Stars lost their first group match last Sunday against Cape Verde, and is will face Egypt on Thursday in their second game.
