The immediate past flagbearer and leader of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Mr. David Apasara has blamed the former Presidential candidate of the party, Dr. Edward Mahama for hiding behind certain individuals to run the party down.

According to Mr. Apasara, there are many occasions the leadership of the party wanted Dr. Mahama to be member of the council of elders and also call the suspended General Secretary to order but in all occasions he has washed his hands from activities of PNC.

“It is therefore strange and mind blowing that the same Dr. Mahama would make a U-turn called for a purported National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Kumasi which was attended by regional chairmen and secretaries to reverse the suspension of the general secretary, Ms. Janet Nabla, her behaviour the party says was against its constitution,” he stated.

Mr. Apasara made these statements at a press conference organized yesterday in Accra responding to the sacking of all elected executives of the party at a NEC meeting in Kumasi which he said failed to qualify as a NEC meeting describing the intent and purpose of that meeting as null and void.

He said per Article 45 of the party’s constitution, NEC, may however, be convened at the request of the leader, national chairman and or general secretary or the standing committee or one-third of the members of NEC.

The leader stated further that clause 2 reads; the national chairman shall preside at the meeting of NEC and in his absence, the 1st 2nd and 3rd national chairmen shall preside depending on who is available but their purported NEC meeting fails to meet these criteria.

Mr. Apasara said when the party could not tolerate the behaviour of the general secretary, the party resorted to the law court for redress but the court in it ruling on April 11, 2022 directed the party to exhaust internal party mechanism per article 67 of the party’s constitution.

“Upon the directive of the court, the National Disciplinary Committee made findings and recommendations to the Standing Committee which after deep thought declared the purported NEC meeting in Kumasi null and void and furnished the court with a report for discontinuation of the case.”

“Let me emphatically say that David Apasara remains the leader of PNC, Moses Dani Baah, the National Chairman, Hajia Hajura Ali is still 1st vice chair, Alhaji Omar Bakure 3rd vice chair and all elected national and regional executives are still holding their positions as executive,” he stated.

Mr. Apasara said the party in due time will communicate to the media about timelines regarding polling stations constituency and regional elections to pave way for national delegates congress which will take place early next near.

“We call on all party sympathisers and all those who believe in democracy and the rule of law to support the struggle for reposition of PNC.”
