Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The announcement was contained in an official press release shared on his Facebook page on Monday afternoon, signalling his readiness to step into the highest leadership role of the governing party.
He described his decision as a solemn response to an overwhelming call from the grassroots and key stakeholders of the party.
According to Mr. Agyarko, his resolve followed extensive consultations with family, close associates, and party faithful whose lives he said would be directly impacted by his political choices.
He stated that he had listened “carefully to what the broad masses of our party people, and indeed many outside our party, are asking of me.” Weighing all considerations, he said he recognises it as his “bound duty” to respond to that call to serve.
He therefore announced his intention to officially enter the race once nominations are opened. Mr. Agyarko’s declaration sets the stage for what could become one of the most fiercely contested internal elections in recent NPP history, as the party prepares to reorganize ahead of the 2028 general elections.
