The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been declared the winner in the Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, and Techiman South constituencies following a court-mandated re-collation of election results.
Okaikwei Central Constituency
In the Okaikwei Central constituency, the re-collation process covered 31 polling stations that had been left out during the initial declaration of results on December 7, 2024. Patrick Yaw Boamah of the NPP garnered 21,099 votes, surpassing Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who obtained 19,368 votes.
Harrison Kwabena Agyarko, the Deputy Returning Officer, officially declared Patrick Yaw Boamah as the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.
Tema Central Constituency
In Tema Central, the re-collation involved two polling stations that were omitted during the December 7 announcement. Out of 148 polling stations, Charles Forson of the NPP emerged victorious with 18,870 votes. He narrowly defeated Ebi Bright of the NDC, who polled 18,815 votes. An independent candidate, Fred Agyei, received 209 votes.
A total of 37,894 votes were cast, with 144 rejected ballots. The total valid votes stood at 38,038. Francis Twum, the Deputy Returning Officer, confirmed Charles Forson as the MP-elect for Tema Central.
Techiman South Constituency
In Techiman South, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah retained his parliamentary seat for the NPP after securing 46,663 votes. He defeated the NDC’s Christopher Bayere Basongti, who garnered 43,429 votes.
The re-collation process was conducted at the Electoral Commission’s regional office in Accra, following a directive from the High Court.
Background
The re-collation exercise followed a High Court ruling in Accra that ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation and declaration of results in multiple constituencies, including Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Techiman South.
The court’s decision came after mandamus applications filed by NPP candidates to ensure transparency and resolve disputes over incomplete results.
Pending Results
While the re-collation in Ablekuma North is still ongoing, the process has faced objections from the NDC regarding discrepancies in some pink sheets presented by the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
