The District Chief Executive for Bongo, Joseph Abaa Akaseke, has passed on. The Bongo District Assembly and the Upper East Region have been thrown into mourning following his unfortunate demise.
Although the exact cause of death has not been officially disclosed, the Bongo Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Alhaji Tahiru Aberinga, confirmed his passing to Graphic Online.
Mr Akaseke reportedly died on Sunday evening, February 22, while on admission at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Appointed in April 2025, he secured overwhelming backing from Assembly Members during his confirmation, polling 52 out of 54 valid votes, a result widely interpreted as a strong endorsement of his leadership and vision for the district.
During his tenure, Mr Akaseke was noted for championing improved basic services and advocating greater infrastructural support for the district. He worked closely with local authorities and national representatives to tackle key challenges in education, healthcare delivery and access to potable water.
