A severe downpour caused havoc in Mframa, a farming community in the Sene West District of the Bono East Region, displacing hundreds of residents and claiming the life of a nine-year-old girl.
According to reports from the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the rains, accompanied by storms and lightning, destroyed about 700 households and left several others with varying degrees of injuries.
Madam Adubia, mother of the deceased, Ophelia Serwaa, told the GNA she could not control her tears as she recounted how the downpour struck the community on Saturday, March 28, around 4:00 pm, continuing through the night and flooding homes.Audio news podcasts
She said her daughter became trapped in the rising waters as many families fled to seek safety.
GNA’s visit to the community revealed extensive damage, with roofs torn off and homes left in ruins.
Some affected residents are now living in temporary shelters, while others have sought refuge with friends.
Residents have appealed to the government for urgent assistance, including decent shelter, food, and clothing, to help them recover from the disaster.
