The Bono East Regional Office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has reported an increase in road accidents in 2024 compared to the previous year.

However, the number of fatalities recorded saw a decline, marking a positive shift in road safety outcomes.

According to Obed Antwi, Operations Officer at the Bono East NRSA, the region recorded 203 road accidents in 2024, up from 165 in 2023 an increase of 38 cases.

Despite this rise, the total number of deaths decreased from 102 in 2023 to 81 in 2024. Additionally, 327 individuals sustained injuries in 2024, compared to 373 in the previous year.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in Techiman, Mr. Antwi highlighted key trends observed in the year under review. While there was a decline in pedestrian knockdowns, pedestrian injuries, and private vehicles involved in accidents, the region witnessed an increase in fatal cases, commercial vehicle crashes, motorcycle-related accidents, and pedestrian deaths.

He emphasized that every life lost to road accidents is a tragedy and urged both motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution.

The NRSA, he assured, will continue to intensify public education and strictly enforce road safety regulations to ensure a further reduction in accidents and fatalities by the end of 2025.
