Ghana’s creative arts and tourism sectors are key drivers of economic growth, cultural preservation, and community development.
With the global demand for authentic travel experiences on the rise, the country’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant arts scene, and historical landmarks offer significant opportunities to attract international tourists and boost revenue. However, industry experts stress that strategic leadership is essential to harness the sector’s full potential.
In this context, the Creative Arts for NDC organization has called for the appointment of Hon. Wakefield Wisdom Ackuaku as the next Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
The group believes his extensive experience and innovative vision could be instrumental in revitalizing Ghana’s tourism industry.
Hon. Ackuaku brings over 30 years of experience in broadcasting, acting, and project management. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Public Administration and Policy Management at the University of Ghana Business School. His academic qualifications include an MBA in Project Management from GIMPA and an MA in Democracy, Governance, Law, and Development from the University of Cape Coast.
As CEO and Artistic Director of Ananseman Play House, Hon. Ackuaku has spearheaded numerous cultural projects, showcasing his commitment to promoting Ghana’s arts and culture. He is also the architect behind the Black Star Experiences, a bold initiative designed to position Ghana as a global tourism destination. His leadership portfolio includes over two decades in top management roles, notably with PEW Events Limited, where he blended creative arts with commercial success.
“Hon. Ackuaku has the vision and expertise to transform our tourism sector, creating jobs, driving revenue, and putting Ghana on the global map for cultural tourism,” stated the Creative Arts for NDC leadership in their appeal. They have urged His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Julius Debrah, and Minister-Designate Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie to consider his candidacy.
The organization emphasizes that under Hon. Ackuaku’s leadership, Ghana’s tourism sector could undergo a much-needed transformation, ensuring sustainable growth and international recognition. They believe his deep understanding of the creative industry, coupled with his innovative approach, could bridge the gap between culture and commerce, unlocking the sector’s untapped potential.
“Ghana’s tourism is a legacy that cannot be overlooked. With leaders like Kwame Nkrumah setting a foundation for cultural pride, we must continue to prioritize tourism and the creative arts,” the group concluded.
The appointment of Hon. Ackuaku as CEO of the GTA, they argue, would be a strategic move toward achieving these goals, and they remain confident that his expertise would bring the transformation Ghana’s tourism sector urgently requires.
