The Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced a 20-year-old boy, Mohammed Bello, to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to robbery charges stemming from a violent attack on drivers and passengers along the Kasoa-Winneba highway.

According to a police statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs at the Central East Regional Police Command, the incident occurred at about 12:30am on July 6, 2025, at Dabanyin near the Gomoa Buduatta junction.

Mohammed Bello and four other accomplices — who are currently on the run — ambushed vehicles and robbed commuters of various items, including mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say a swift, intelligence-led response led to the arrest of Bello within the area as he attempted to flee. A search conducted on him revealed GH₵3,740 in cash, two Samsung smartphones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, an Itel power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a charger head, and a pair of sandals later identified by one of the victims during investigations.

Following detailed investigations, Bello was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, where he admitted to the charges and was sentenced accordingly.

“The Central East Regional Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public by bringing all accomplices of this crime to face the full rigors of the law,” DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo emphasized in the statement.
