The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dispelled false reports circulating in the traditional and social media space stating that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for allegedly possessing ammunition.
In a statement released on Tuesday, August 19 and signed by Captain V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General for Public Relations, the Armed Forces said checks with security agencies and national investigative bodies had not confirmed any such arrest.

“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement noted.
The GAF further assured the public that, despite the false report, any military personnel found culpable of criminal activity would be subjected to due legal processes like any other citizen.
Describing the report as false and misleading, the Armed Forces urged the public to disregard it and cautioned against the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
