The British High Commission has donated eight (8) ambulances equipped with modern state-of-the-art technology to aid the Ghana Armed Forces in improving medical outreach to personnel working in the Northern part of the country to fight violent extremism.
The donation is to demonstrate bilateral collaboration and commitment to strengthen the UK-Ghana security partnership.
The event brought together the UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces, Rt. Hon. James Heappey, the Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama from the Ghana Armed Forces, British High Commissioner, H.E Harriet Thompson, a representative from both the UK government and the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, UK Minister for the Armed Forces, Rt Hon. James Heappey said the UK government is proud to contribute to the Ghana Armed Forces, capacity to protect and serve its civilians in the 5 Northern regions to counter violent extremism.
“We are proud to contribute to Ghana Armed Force’s capacity to protect and serve its civilians in the 5 Northern regions to counter violent extremism, and we will continue to foster long-lasting partnerships through our annual security dialogue,” he said.
He stressed that the UK will continue to work closely with the Ghana Armed Forces to support Ghana’s leadership position in the sub-region and strengthen the capabilities of Ghanaian security services to take the lead in responding to emergencies in the region.
Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Seth Amoama on behalf of the GAF and Ghana expressed profound gratitude to the UK government for the kind gesture and assured of making good use of the vehicles.
According to him, the ambulances will help boost the effort of the Ghana Armed Forces in embarking on counter-terrorism operations that threaten Ghana’s peace and stability from the Northern region.
The ambulances will be distributed to Wa, Bolgatanga, Sandema Mechanical Brigade Headquarters and the Armoured Regimental Headquarters in Damango.
