The Bryan Acheampong Foundation, a non-governmental organization has inaugurated a new Classroom block for the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) school, at Kwahu-Tafo in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region on Tuesday, November, 15.
Speaking in an interview with myrepubliconline.com‘s Andy Frimpong Manso, the Director of Development for the Bryan Acheampong Foundation, Frank Amoh said, the government most times do not have the policies and requisite resources to provide the best infrastructure for Kindergarten schools.
He said, in most cases, civil societies, NGOs’ and Foundations such as the Bryan Acheampong Foundation take it upon themselves to provide such infrastructures for Kindergarten pupils.
According to him, the BAF was called in to assist in the completion of the project after its inception in 2000. The project became stalled due to some financial difficulties to complete the project.
The project, according to Mr. Amoh, began in April this year. The intention was to as a matter of urgency complete the facility to provide a stable and comfortable place for the school children.
” The project began in 2000. They couldn’t complete it due to some financial difficulties. They were able to start with the foundation of the project. However, they reached out to the Foundation in a bid to complete the facility for the kids. We came in and continue from the grounds in April this year. The idea was to complete it as early as possible to provide the kids with a good and enabling environment for effective teaching and learning. So we’re here today to Commission the project for the school”, he said.
However, Mr Amoh added that a conversation between the District education directorate and the Assembly Members in the area has been reached to push to the Kwahu East Assembly to provide furniture for the kids.
“The headmistress made us aware they have furniture but it’s not enough. They have also made a plea to the Assembly Members who came to push to the Assembly to support them. The project we undertake are all circled around the Assembly and the Ghana Education Service, therefore, everybody is making sure that they contribute their quota to the betterment of the school children“.
The Bryan Acheampong Foundation is currently running about six different projects under its education sector.
BAF is providing postgraduate scholarships to the teachers as a sign of motivation in the district. The scholarship has been scaled up to cover all five districts within Kwahu.
BAF also provides an undergrad scholarship for any qualified student within the Kwahu block.
It also has “The Mentor’s project”. It’s a scholarship for school children in primary 4. These children will be mentored right from primary 4 to the University level. It’s specifically for the brilliant but needy schoolchildren in the District.
Last year alone, BAF identified 30 school children and has further identified 35 this year with a target of reaching out to 100 brilliant but needy people in the district.
The representative for the District director of education commended the Bryan Acheampong Foundation and called on other well-meaning people to support education in the district.
