The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated that the decision to appoint the four personalities who contested the January 2026 presidential primary as co-chairs of various party committees was based strictly on their competencies, experience, and professional backgrounds.

In a strategic move to strengthen the party’s platform, all four former aspirants have been integrated into a structured, data-driven policy framework.

According to Mohammed, these committees are tasked with conducting independent research, engaging sector experts and stakeholders, and producing robust policy alternatives backed by verifiable data.

These proposals will ultimately be submitted for the review and approval of the party’s flagbearer.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outspoken businessman and former Member of Parliament, has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee. This portfolio aligns squarely with his long-standing advocacy for private sector-led job creation and entrepreneurship.

Similarly, Kwabena Agyapong, the former NPP General Secretary, takes the co-chairmanship of the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee, addressing a sector where deficits remain a primary concern for Ghanaians in both urban and rural communities.

Bryan Acheampong, the former Minister for Agriculture and Interior, assumes the co-chairmanship of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee.

This role is viewed as a natural fit, given his firsthand ministerial experience in security and governance.

Completing the quartet is Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the former Minister for Education, who serves as Co-Chairman of the Education Policy Committee. He brings an enviable track record of innovation and a deep-seated passion for transforming Ghana’s educational landscape.

Commenting on the roles assigned to these party stalwarts, Haruna Mohammed noted that each co-chair brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and commitment to the task.

He emphasised that their involvement is crucial in helping the flagbearer formulate the policies necessary to manage the country effectively should he be elected.

Regarding the specific selection of Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Mohammed noted: “In Parliament, he is a Ranking Member on the Education Committee. As the party formulated its policies, we needed representatives from Parliament. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum’s selection as Ranking Member on the Education Committee was a direction of the party. The party first appointed them as Ranking Members for the party in respect of the party. We also have those who are experts in the education sector who can independently work for the party. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum is undisputedly an expert and a huge human resource in education, and if you need someone who will drive policy, Dr Adutwum is very integral.”

On the appointment of Bryan Acheampong, he stated: “The lawmaker is a security expert, and to appoint him as co-chair for the security committee, you have identified the right human resource.”

He further added: “We all know that Kennedy Agyapong has vast knowledge regarding employment opportunities. He is an entrepreneur himself, and to appoint him as co-chair for an employment committee, you have done the appropriate thing and have not missed any opportunity. They were also selected in the spirit of their experience and the huge human capital resource they will provide for the NPP and Ghana as a whole. That was the basis on which they were recommended and selected to help the party formulate policies, the party’s direction, and ideology.”

Haruna Mohammed concluded by stressing that all four individuals have formally accepted the invitation to lead their respective committees.
