An Accra High Court has sentenced Bougouma Aloys Jnr., a 47-year-old Burkinabe national, to life imprisonment for the murders of his German girlfriend, Claudia Weiman, 53, and their 14-year-old daughter.
The sentencing, delivered by Her Ladyship Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, followed a unanimous guilty verdict from a seven-member jury on two counts of murder after a full trial.
Assistant State Attorney Yvonne Yaachie-Adomako led the prosecution, presenting five witnesses to establish the case.
When invited by Justice Yanzuh to speak before sentencing, Aloys declined. Evidence presented in court showed that during a dispute, he struck Weiman in the head with a hammer.
Fearing his daughter would report the incident to the police, he strangled her as well. Aloys then attempted to conceal the crime by burying both bodies on their 10-plot property in Kokrobite, Accra.
Neighbours grew suspicious after noticing the sudden absence of Weiman and her daughter and reported a foul odour emanating from the property, initially believed to be a decaying animal.
Their concerns prompted police involvement, leading to the discovery of the human remains. Aloys later confessed, providing details of how he committed the murders.
The family had relocated from Germany to Ghana in January 2020, living in a three-bedroom home on the Kokrobite property. Aloys and Weiman had reportedly chosen to settle in Ghana following their marriage in Germany.
