The Central Regional Commander for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ACFO I John Amarlai Amartey, has shared his frustration over the consistent upsurge of bushfire cases recorded in the region.

He remarked that the confronted situation posed a huge worry to the region’s fire command by blowing out a lot of its resources.

He said this after a float was paraded across the principal streets of Cape Coast on Wednesday to earmark this year’s International Firefighters’ Day, slated for Thursday, May 4, 2023.

ACFO I John Amarlai Amartey narrated to Sompa FM that the celebration of International Firefighters’ Day revolves around an incident caused by a bushfire that took the lives of some firefighters in Australia, which makes bushfires a sensitive topic for discussion.

ACFO I Amarlai Amartey further added that fuses that emanate from bushfires often cause road accidents as they prevent the clear viewing of road users while driving. Hence, the need for earnest conscientization to have the act put to a stop.

He announced that the Central Regional Fire Service will very soon get off its shells to have bushfire perpetrators in the region brought to book and persecuted to deter others from carrying on the act.
