A ten-year-old girl from Mankessim Anglican School in the Mfantseman constituency narrowly escaped an assassination attempt after appearing as a witness in a theft case at the Mankessim District Court.

The girl, who had testified against a man named Majeed, reported feeling unwell around 8:30 am on Monday while at school and asked her teacher for permission to go home for medication. On her way, she was attacked by three masked assailants.

According to a report by Eric Annan from Sompa News, the assailants tied the girl’s mouth, and hands and attempted to tie her legs when they noticed some people approaching the uncompleted building where the attack was taking place. The attackers fled before being discovered.

The girl was rescued by some students who were on an errand for their teacher. They found her with her mouth sealed with a handkerchief and her hands tied with a lemon-coloured rope. She explained her ordeal to the rescuing students.

Beatrice Daamoah, the girl’s mother, revealed that she had seen the accused thief, Majeed, pointing out her daughter to his friends on several occasions, identifying her as the girl who testified against him in court.

Concerned for her daughter’s safety, she reported the matter to the CID handling the case, who warned the man.

Beatrice suspects Majeed is behind the attempted murder of her daughter.

Hon. Ali Abubakuri Amoah, Assemblyman for New Nkusukum Electoral Area, expressed his astonishment over the incident.

He confirmed that the matter had been reported to the Mankessim police command, which has launched an investigation. No arrests have been made yet.
