School children in the Somnyamekodu in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the Central region have been denied quality education as they are compelled to learn in a dilapidated wooden structure.

Somnyamekodu which is a farming community with a population of about 1,000 people in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the central region have been facing several infrastructural challenges and a modern day classroom block is one of them.
Speaking in an interview with Wassaman Fm, the chief of Somnyamekodu, Nana Adams Asabre II disclosed that, the only public basic school in the area is the Somnyamekodu D/A Basic School, an old wooden structure which was built by community members and accommodates about 300 school children and in the area.

The chief also bemoaned that, students sit on the bare floor and learn due to the huge furniture deficit in the school.

He further added there are only 7 teachers in the school from KG to JHS 3 of which 4 are Community Teaching Assistants who are paid by the parents.

The people of Twifo Somnyamekodu are not only facing educational challenges but also sharing contaminated water with animals which according to the chief, has resulted in many diseases and infections among the residents.

Nana Adams Asabre II however called on well-doing individuals, NGOs and the government to come to their aid.
