The chiefs of twelve communities in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the central region have called on the gods to punish the NDC’s Upper Denkyera East constituency chairman, Mr. Swanzy Arhin, and any government officials involved in galamsey activities.

According to Nana Kwame Baduo Ababio, the Twifo Werempimhene, the Upper Denkyera constituency chairman for the NDC, Mr Swanzy Arhin, led a mining company called BENVICO Ltd to the chiefs of Twifo Wamaso and 11 other communities with a prospecting licence signed by Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, that they were coming to do mining prospecting in the area.

Mr. Swanzy Arhin and his BENVICO company destroyed approximately 50 acres of cultivated farmlands owned by approximately 500 farmers through galamsey activities before the chiefs and people realised it.

Again, the spokesperson noted that, the only major river in the area, River Bunu which serves as the only source of drinking water for residents has been destroyed by their illegal activities.
