A fatal accident at Gomoa Okyereko Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region has left three passengers dead and 20 others critically injured.
The collision, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, involved a VW Sprinter Benz Bus with registration number GW 5477-24 and a Hyundai Grace with registration number GR 5899-22.
An eyewitness, Kweku Atta, told Adom News that the Sprinter driver, traveling towards Takoradi, attempted a wrongful overtaking and collided head-on with the Hyundai Grace, which was en route from Winneba to Kasoa.
The victims who perished on the spot include two male passengers and one female. All 20 critically injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the Winneba Municipal Fire Service Commander, D02 Fredrick Adu-Poku, urged drivers to avoid reckless overtaking, especially during the busy Christmas season. “This accident could have been prevented if the driver had exercised patience,” he lamented.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of caution on the roads to prevent further tragedies during the festive period.
