Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and one-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, sprang into action on Sunday May 25, 2025 after witnessing the aftermath of a deadly road traffic incident near Assin Nsuta.
The incident occurred while Hon. Agyapong and his convoy were traveling from Assin Fosu to Accra. Upon reaching Assin Nsuta, they encountered a harrowing scene where a motorbike had engulfed in flames, and the rider already deceased at the roadside.
Eyewitness accounts and preliminary information gathered at the scene suggested that two articulated trucks, both headed toward Cape Coast, were involved.
One of the trucks reportedly veered into the opposite lane in an attempt to overtake, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming motorbike. The motorcyclist died instantly.
Tragically, the second truck—identified by registration number AS-9475-19—allegedly ran over the lifeless body, causing severe mutilation.
Moved by the gravity of the incident, Hon. Agyapong immediately instructed members of his convoy to pursue the fleeing driver of the truck suspected to have initiated the collision.
The team was able to locate and apprehend the suspect, whom they subsequently handed over to the Assin Manso Police Command for formal investigations.
In a brief interaction with reporters following the intervention, Hon. Agyapong condemned the reckless actions that led to the motorcyclist’s death and emphasized his personal commitment to ensuring justice is delivered.
“This is a tragedy that could have been avoided. We cannot allow drivers to act with such disregard for human life and go unpunished,” he said.
“I will follow up to ensure the law takes its full course.”
Police in the area have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist has not yet been made public, pending formal notification of next of kin.
