Mankessim-Asikafo Amantem residents in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region are complaining bitterly about the stench odour and smoke emitting from the burning substance from over 25-year-old dumping refuse site in the area.
According to them, they fear the situation exposes them to health hazards, as they also bemoaned the negative effect it is having on their businesses in the area.
The Youth Leader of MankessimโAsikafo Amantem, Mr Eric Ato Bonful lamented that residents of Mankessim have been using the area as a dumping ground and a place of easing themselves in which the unpleasant smell emanating from the area including dead animals is a threat to their health.
He also bewailed that every attempt to draw the attention of the appropriate quarters proved futile.
The residents added that the surroundings have been also left unkempt with plastic waste dotted in gutters, amid bushes worsened by unbearable smell.
They called on their colleagues to at least go a bit far and must stop spreading refuge loads overnight, hence called on the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford and MCE, Hon. Ike Lord Ennu to come to their aid.
