The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Effutu Constituency, has strongly mounted a defence against allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin regarding the ongoing voter transfer exercise.
The NDC claimed that the Majority Leader has brought into the constituency, some 71 soldiers to get their names registered in the area.
According to the NDC, the NPP has deliberately been busing people who are not eligible to vote in the constituency in an attempt to create chaos during the voting exercise.
However, the NPP has described the accusations by the NDC as baseless and without any evidence.
Providing clarification to the matter in a press conference, Communications Officer Ellis Otabil said the NDC is rather bringing up such issues to disrupt the process stating that the individuals doing the transfer are indigenous people, students and transferred workers transferring their votes.
“We want to set the record straight that whoever comes to Winneba to transfer his vote is either an indigene or a native of Effutu and students alike.”
“Workers who have been transferred and are staying in Winneba are those who have transferred their votes to Effutu, and therefore it wouldn’t lie in his mouth to send warnings to them that they cannot transfer their votes to vote democratically.”
He further cautioned the NDC against intimidating persons who want to get their votes transferred.
“We have seen that the NDC in Central Region has a grand scheme to intimidate would-be voters who are transferring their votes to various constituencies to be part of the 2024 general election.
“We are sending a strong warning to the NDC that they cannot intimidate anyone in Effutu, they cannot resort to violence.”
