Traditional leaders of Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have appealed to state security agencies to restore peace following renewed tensions within the community’s chieftaincy.
The unrest escalated on Sunday, February 1, when over 100 individuals attacked the community palace, causing significant property damage. A timely intervention by the police prevented any injuries and restored order.
Authorities have since arrested 10 suspects, who are currently in police custody pending further investigations.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, the Ankobeahene of Nyanyano, Nana Ayi Quaye, urged the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that both the planners and perpetrators are held accountable under the law.
“We were there and heard that people wanted to attack us for reasons we do not know,” Nana Ayi Quaye said.
“They previously tried to take over the palace through the courts, but the court dismissed their claim. Now, they have resorted to using force to achieve their aims.”
