A police officer has died after being run over by a tanker truck at a police checkpoint at the Kantanka junction on the Winneba-Kasoa Highway in the central region.
The incident occurred on June 21, 2024, around 10 p.m.
The truck was travelling from Accra to Winneba, with two people on board.
When the tanker driver, who was reportedly sleeping, reached a section of the road, he sped through the checkpoint barrier and ran over a police officer who was checking a stopped vehicle, killing him.
Kwesi, an eyewitness who narrates the incident, claims the police officer was checking a stopped vehicle when the tanker struck him from behind.
He stated that the driver was dozing in the car and was unable to see what occurred.
The deceased police officer was transported to the trauma and specialist hospital in Winneba, along with three others who were injured.
