Pupils of Enyan Obontser D/A Basic School in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region have expressed frustration over the lack of adequate desks in their classrooms.

The situation has compelled many of them to carry kitchen stools and plastic chairs from home to use during lessons.

Some of these improvised seats are old and broken, making it uncomfortable for the children to sit for long periods and difficult to concentrate fully on their studies.

The pupils have therefore appealed to traditional authorities, the District Chief Executive of Ajumako Enyan Essiam, and the government to intervene by providing enough classroom furniture to create a more conducive learning environment.

Speaking at the school, the Senahen of Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area, Osaadeɛyo Ayeboafo Ettuaful I, urged parents to play a greater role in supporting their children’s education by providing basic learning materials. He also donated 2,000 exercise books to the school as part of his contribution toward promoting quality education in the community.

He further called on the entire community to unite in supporting the school’s needs, stressing that education is a shared responsibility.

The Assistant Headteacher, Mr. Obed Donkor, expressed gratitude to the chief for the donation but reiterated the urgent need for classroom desks. He appealed to parents, traditional leaders, and benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the school by providing both learning materials and furniture to enhance teaching and learning.

Enyan Obontser D/A Basic School serves pupils from several surrounding communities. However, inadequate desks and limited teaching and learning resources continue to pose a major challenge to effective education delivery in the area.
