A violent rainstorm has wreaked havoc in Awutu Babianiha-Odumase, a community in the Awutu Senya West District, leaving more than 500 students stranded after their school buildings were severely damaged.
The storm, which struck late last night with strong winds and minimal rainfall, tore off the roofs of several buildings, including the Awutu Bibianiha Basic School.
Classrooms and staff offices were left exposed to the elements, causing extensive flooding. Many teachers and students lost their personal belongings in the downpour.
Speaking to the media, Nana Kwasi Essel, the Mbrantehene (Youth Chief) of the town, made an urgent appeal to their Member of Parliament, Hon. Gizella Tetteh, who also serves as the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing to intervene and provide assistance for the displaced students.
“The students are stranded, and the situation is dire. We are calling on our MP and other relevant authorities to come to our aid,” he pleaded.
Residents and school officials are now seeking emergency support to repair the damaged buildings and restore normalcy for the affected students.
