Assemblyman for Twifo Anyinaae-Brofoyeduru electoral area in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district of Central Region, Hon. Kwaku Tewia is worried about the persistent and increasing rate of stealing of railway track steel in the district.
The railway lines which stretch from Twifo Praso through Twifo Anyinaase and Wassa Ateiku to Huni-Valley serve residents in terms of transporting goods.
According to Hon. Kwaku Tewia, the stealing takes place usually at night when the suspected thieves sneak into the bushes to cut these railway track steel.
He added that an investigation into the matter had begun but was told that, the Ghana railway authority has sold the railway lines to scrap dealers.
He also hinted that, claims that the railway track steel was sold sounded fishy hence he called on the Ghana Police Service to intervene.
Speaking to the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Twifo Atti-Morkwa district, Hon. Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi also confirmed the reports from residents and added that the district security council will hold a DISEC meeting to map up a strategy to arrest the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Twifo Atti-Morkwa district police command has also responded off the record that, any time they receive a report concerning the illegal cutting of the railway lines, they follow up and a series of investigations lead to one assemblyman believed to have hands in the illegal cutting of the railway lines.
