The workers of Saltpond Government Hospital in the Mfantseman Municipality of Central Region have lamented there is shortage of blood in the Hospital’s Blood Bank.
In an interview with some of the Staff, they said, it is so painful to hear that someone has lost his/her life. Pregnant women and accident victims have been the most affected with some of them reportedly losing their lives while waiting for relatives with compatible blood to donate.
Biological Scientist, Mr Ishmael Asare pleaded with corporate bodies and individuals to come to their aid in that manner.
Mr Benjamin Eshun, the Technical Officer also emphasized that, before donating the blood, one will be cross examined to know whether he or she is in the best position or fit to donate.
He said as a means of encouraging young people to donate blood, the Hospital had started speaking to some NGO’s, individuals to help in that regards.
The doctors further revealed that, there is no specific time or date set for compatibility test. The doors are always open 24/7 as they provide 24hrs service at Saltpond Government Hospital.
