A 38-year-old woman has been convicted by the Assin Foso District Court for impersonating the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, and fraudulently obtaining money from the father of a deceased police officer under false pretences.

The convict, Sarah Wilson, also known as Mame Esi, a resident of Nyankumase Ahenkuro was arraigned before the court on June 1, 2026, on charges of impersonation, stealing, and obtaining an electronic payment medium falsely.

Presiding over the case, His Worship Peter Anongdare Esq. convicted the accused on her own plea of guilty. The court sentenced her to a fine of 90 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢1,080, or in default serve a six-month prison term.

The court further ordered the convict to enter into a bond of good behaviour for one year. Failure to comply with the bond conditions would attract an additional six-month custodial sentence. Court records indicate that the fine has since been paid.

Facts presented before the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng, revealed that the case came to light after the father of the late Inspector Evans Krampah, formerly of the Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (RMTTD) of the Central North Region, lodged a complaint over a suspected fraud scheme.

According to the prosecution, the complainant received a telephone call from a woman who identified herself as the Central North Regional Police Commander.

The caller informed him that GH¢2,000 was needed to facilitate the processing of a burial certificate for his late son ahead of his funeral.

Believing the request to be genuine, the bereaved father transferred the money electronically. However, he became suspicious when the caller later demanded an additional GH¢2,000 for another purpose.

He subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to investigations that uncovered the alleged fraud.

Police investigations led to the arrest of Sarah Wilson, who was identified as the girlfriend of the deceased police officer.

Investigators established that the telephone numbers used in the fraudulent transaction were registered in her name. During interrogation, the convict confessed to orchestrating the scheme.

Prosecutors told the court that she used a voice-changing software known as “Magic Voice” to alter her voice and make it sound like that of a man in order to deceive the complainant. Police also recovered GH¢2,000, believed to be proceeds from the fraudulent transaction, as evidence.

The accused was subsequently charged and prosecuted before the Assin Foso District Court, where she pleaded guilty to the offences and was convicted accordingly.
