The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ruled that the winners of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 are no longer Senegal, but Morocco, following a decision by its Appeals Board.
The governing body sanctioned Senegal with a 3-0 forfeit defeat, awarding the title to Morocco.
Why did Senegal lose AFCON 2025?
After a penalty was awarded to Morocco — which was missed by Brahim Díaz — several Senegal players refused to continue the match.
Minutes later, the players returned to the pitch led by Sadio Mané, and Senegal initially went on to win the match.
However, after the appeal process, CAF reviewed the situation and issued a final ruling.
CAF official ruling
In response to the appeal filed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), the Appeals Board issued the following decisions:
The appeal is declared admissible and upheld.
The decision of the CAF Disciplinary Board is overturned.
Senegal’s conduct is found to fall under Articles 82 and 84 of the regulations.
The protest filed by the Moroccan federation is upheld.
The Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF) is found to have violated Article 82.
Under Article 84, Senegal is sanctioned with a forfeit defeat, with a 3-0 result awarded to Morocco.
All other motions are dismissed.
