The Ghana Police Service has restored calm in Sampa in the Bono Region following renewed chieftaincy disturbances on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, which left one person dead and several others injured.
In a statement on Facebook, the Police said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, swiftly deployed reinforcement teams to Sampa and nearby communities.
Security has since been tightened, with intensified patrols to protect residents and maintain law and order. The deployment, according to the Service, is aimed at averting reprisal attacks and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The latest clashes mark yet another violent episode in the protracted Sampa chieftaincy dispute, which has divided the town for years.
This longstanding rivalry between two claimants to the Sampa stool has often spilled into open confrontations, leaving behind casualties and deepened tension among families and neighbors.
This is not the first time the town has witnessed bloodshed over the dispute. On March 29, 2024, a similar confrontation claimed four lives and left several others injured.
Among the victims then was a 12-year-old boy who was struck by a stray bullet and later referred to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment. That tragedy deepened calls for a lasting resolution to the chieftaincy impasse.
