The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
Their discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fight against illegal mining and exploring investment opportunities in Ghana’s extractive sector for Canadian businesses.
During the meeting, both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Ghana-Canada relations, particularly in the mining industry.
They also underscored their cooperation ahead of the upcoming Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Mineral Exploration & Mining Convention in Toronto. The event, one of the world’s largest mining conventions, will provide a platform for exploration companies, governments, and industry service providers to showcase opportunities within the sector.
Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah emphasized the Ghanaian government’s dedication to reforming the mining sector to attract investment while ensuring environmental sustainability.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to streamline the mining licensing process, making it more accessible and transparent for investors who adhere to Ghana’s environmental and climate protection laws.
“We must review our processes to make them more efficient. The issue of corruption will be taken seriously, I can assure you. The government of H.E. John Dramani Mahama is committed to ensuring a clear and transparent system for businesses, eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles,” he stated.
The Lands Minister also expressed appreciation for Canada’s long-standing support and cooperation in Ghana’s mining sector. He reaffirmed Ghana’s active participation in the PDAC convention, where the country will showcase its vast mineral potential and investment-friendly policies.
The visit underscored the deep-rooted partnership between Ghana and Canada in fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial mining sector advancements.
