Kwahu Obo Nifahene, Nana Acheampong Mintah, has advised President-elect John Dramani Mahama to tread cautiously and avoid any plans to cancel the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
Speaking to Angel TV/FM’s Oheneba Siaw during the funeral of the late Joseph Kwasi Ampadu at Kwahu Osubeng in the Eastern Region, Nana Acheampong Mintah emphasized the importance of the Free SHS policy, describing it as a legacy that has significantly benefited Ghanaians, particularly parents and guardians.
According to him, the policy, introduced by the previous administration, has played a critical role in providing accessible education to many families.
He warned that any attempt to abolish it could pose a major challenge to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
“The policy has eased the financial burden on many households, and its removal would create significant difficulties for the people,” he stated.
The traditional leader further urged the new administration to focus on implementing policies that will advance the nation’s development rather than dismantling beneficial programs.
He reminded the government of its “Resetting Ghana” agenda and the expectations of citizens for economic stability and growth.
Additionally, Nana Acheampong Mintah called on Ghanaians to be law-abiding, respect authority, and cooperate with the government for national progress.
