The Cape Coast and Elmina Castles have extended their operating hours to 10 p.m. as part of efforts to support the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie has announced.
According to the Minister, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) successfully piloted night tours at the two historic sites before extending their operating hours.Ghana investment opportunities
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 10, 2026, she said the initiative would allow visitors to access the castles beyond their traditional daytime operating hours.
“The Board and management of GMMB have successfully piloted night tours in Cape Coast and Elmina Castles,” she said.
Ms Gomashie said the initiative formed part of the government’s broader vision to implement the 24-hour economy and create new opportunities within the tourism sector.
The extension is also expected to improve access to Ghana’s heritage sites and promote tourism activities beyond normal operating hours.
