The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the Government of Ghana has fully settled all arrears owed under the Capitation Grant for public basic schools, covering the entire period from 2023 to date.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 23, the GES stated that the payment reflects government’s strong commitment to the smooth operation and improvement of basic education nationwide.

The Capitation Grant serves as a vital funding source for public basic schools, supporting the acquisition of teaching materials, minor maintenance works, and essential school-based management tasks. The grant also enhances school autonomy and enables effective education delivery.

GES expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising the release of funds despite economic pressures, and lauded school heads for their patience and dedication during the period of delayed payments.

School authorities have been urged to utilise the funds prudently and in accordance with the approved guidelines. The statement also noted that district and regional monitoring teams will increase supervision efforts to ensure proper accountability and value for money.

GES reaffirmed its continued commitment to advancing quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all children across Ghana.
