Cell break hits Bole Police Station as 4 convicts, 3 remand prisoners escape

The Bole Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service is currently on a manhunt for seven persons who escaped from cell on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

The Bole Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service is currently on a manhunt for seven persons who escaped from cell on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

The seven suspects are four convicts and three remand prisoners. Information gathered by Republic Press indicates that the cell break took place around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Speaking to the paper on condition of anonymity, the source said Bole Divisional Police Command at Bole is made up of two cells (Cell 1 and 2).

The source noted that Cell Two has no toilet facility, so as a normal practice, anytime convicts want to attend to nature’s call, they have to use Cell One, but this time luck eluded Lance Corporal Joseph Zackari, the officer on duty on that faithful day.

The convicts told the officer that they wanted to use the washroom, so while Lance Corporal Zackari unlocked the cell and was on his way to open Cell 1 for them to use the toilet, they pounced on him and immediately escaped.

Out of the eight convicts in Cell 2, seven of them escaped, except one.

The escapee convicts are identified as Mohammed Abudulai, Ibrahim Mohammed (who can be easily identified with a gunshot wound on his right shoulder), Mahama Salu, one Solomon, and three others whose names were not given.

The information further revealed that Ibrahim Mohammed was an alleged known armed robber who was arrested a year ago but has been on remand all this time.

Some of the officers are pointing accusing fingers at the then District Police Command, Superintendent Benjamin Abeka Buston, now the Divisional Commandeer, for being found guilty of always keeping convicts without sending them to court for prosecution.

The source indicated that the policy hierarchy at Bole Divisional Command has given junior officers ten working days to produce the escapee cell breakers, but since September 6, none of the convicts have been arrested.

The police hierarchy at the national headquarters is tight on the matter.
