CalBank PLC is supporting the training of Field Officers for the 2021 PHC with a donation of GHS 10,000 to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The funds are meant to support the printing of the Field Officer’s Manual (FOM) for the 2021 Population and Housing Census.
A delegation from GSS comprising Mr. Emmanuel George Ossei, Head of the Census Secretariat, Mrs. Abena Osei-Akoto, Head of Recruitment and Training; and Mr. Francis Nyarkoh-Larbi, Head of Publicity, Education and Advocacy, accepted the cheque on behalf of GSS management from Mr. Peter Hall, Events and Sponsorship Officer and Mr. Kofi Sabi, Head of Marketing, CalBank .
In a brief statement, Mr. Kofi Sabi, Head of Marketing, CalBank, said the data from the Census will help their bank as data serves as the basis for its operations.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in March 2021 launched a publicity and preparation campaign dubbed “100 Days Countdown to the 2021 Population and Housing Census” in Accra to prepare the citizenry for this most important national programme of gathering data on the population and housing situation in Ghana.
Among other innovations, the 2021 Population and Housing Census, which begins on the night of Sunday June 27, will be the first fully digital census, with the use of tablets for data capture instead of traditional paper questionnaires. According to officials of the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), going green will save the country from the printing of over seven million household questionnaires.
The PHC of 2021 will also see the implementation, for the first time, data linkage technology that is intended to harmonize and improve statistics in the West Africa subregion. The implementation of the Harmonising and Improving Statistics in West Africa Project (2020−2024) is intended to ensure efficient data production through cooperation and partnership with National Statistics Offices of seven West African countries as well as 20 MDAs.
The questionnaires have also been expanded to include comprehensive information on key areas to support the tracking of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators such as housing and living conditions, water and sanitation, and difficulty in performing activities on daily living during the approximately 28-day PHC.
