The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan has said efforts are in place to make the Central Region a rice-producing hub in the country.

The Minister made this known to the media during the Minister of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), Dr Owusu  Afriyie Akoto’s working tour in the Central region.

According to Mrs Assan, this will enable the region to unleash its full potential in rice production to support the Agricultural sector in the country.

In making this vision a reality, the regional minister revealed that, a strong collaboration is being agreed upon with Korea International Corporation, an organization involved in rice production.

She added that, though her region is currently eighth on the log of rice-producing regions, Central Region is poised to move to the 7th position.

She noted that talks were already ongoing in that regard.

“With the measures put in place one can only hope for the best from the Central Region”, Mrs Assan said.
She further hinted that the Central Region will institute a local market called, “Farmers Market” where foodstuffs produced in the region would be assembled and sold to customers.

Mrs Marigold Assan indicated that there were ongoing efforts to ensure that Ghanaians eat fresh foods from the farms while guaranteeing the benefits of their nutritional value.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s visit to the Central Region forms part of the minister’s working tour in five regions across the country.

In his response, the minister pledged his support to ensure that the nation benefits from the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) in the region.

The Minister has already visited the Western, and Western North and is expected to visit Volta and Oti Regions.
