Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially commenced a nationwide strike beginning today, August 1, 2023.
The group has withdrawn their services as a result of the government’s failure to satisfy the Arbitral Award Orders issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC) since May 2, 2023.
CETAG in January, 2023 embarked on an indefinite strike over what they described as prolonged negotiations for new conditions of service.
However, they called off the strike after interventions by the NLC which subsequently saw the introduction of compulsory arbitral orders for new conditions of service for CETAG.
But the association has bemoaned that the orders have not yet been complied, and has therefore asked all members to withdraw their services.
“Following several efforts by the leadership of CETAG to impress on our employer to comply with the Arbitral Award Orders issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on May 2, 2023, the National Delegates Conference of CETAG, has at its meeting held from Sunday, 30th to Monday, 31st July, 2023, resolved that effective Tuesday, 1st August, 2023, ALL TUTORS of the 46 public colleges of education in Ghana are to withdraw teaching and related services until our employer has complied with the ORDERS of the NLC.”
