The 2022/23 Champions League season was underway last week with several games taking place.

Defending champions and fourteen-time winners, Real Madrid, opened their title defense with a convincing 3-0 victory over Scottish giants Celtic far away in Scotland last Tuesday.

The Spanish giants were held to a first half draw but came out strongly in the second half and showed their superiority by netting three unanswered goals.

Other games also took place at various venues with some convincing victories from some European giants and disappointing results as well.

Chelsea and Liverpool suffered defeats on the opening day of the campaign to GNK Dinamo Zagreb and Napoli respectively and look to make amends in their respective second group stage games later this week.

With the 2022 World Cup slated for November, clubs football action comes very fast with players having to play lots of games this season.

We take a look into the second round of games in the Champions League and some interesting fixtures to expect.

On Tuesday, 13th September, Liverpool welcome Ajax Amsterdam to Anfield. The English side lost their opening game to Napoli and will need to be at their very best to get a result over an Ajax side who are top of the Eredivisie and won their opening game.

Liverpool on the other hand have not had a good start to the premier league campaign and sit 7th on the league table with nine (9) points after six games.

Another interesting fixture football fans are looking forward to is Bayern Munich welcoming Barcelona to the Allianz Arena.

The German side have dominated Barcelona in recent times with an 8-2 thumping win very fresh in the mind of some Barcelona fans.

Interestingly, Barcelona has a former Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski who was on the winning side when these two teams met last season.

Xavi and his men are looking to put up a fight this time round after a good start to the season and winning their opening group stage game. Bayern have drawn three consecutive league games this season and hope to make two wins from two games in the Champions League.

On Wednesday, Pep’s Manchester City will host Borussia Dortmund at the Ethihad stadium. Dortmund would be playing against a familiar face in the person of Erling Haaland who joined the English side at the end of last season from Dortmund.

Haaland has been prolific in front of goal since joining Manchester City and hope to continue his fine form against his former employers.

Chelsea will also host Red Bull Salzburg with their new manager, Graham Potter in charge after Thomas Tuchel was sacked last week.

It has been a disappointing start to the season by Chelsea looking at the amount of money they spent during the transfer window.

Below is the full list of expected fixtures for the second round of games.
