Senegal have been crowned champions of the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), after beating host nation Algeria 5-4 on penalties on Saturday night.
The victory saw the Local Teranga Lions win their first ever CHAN tournament, with the West African nation also winning their first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2022, as well as the Beach Soccer AFCON.
Both sides begun the first half of the game in front of a charged crowd at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, but failed to produce any goal in the first 45 minutes.
The two teams were again untroubled in the second half as they could not find the back of the net, with the match ending in a goalless draw at the end of the 90 minutes.
After the game had traveled into the extra time, the winner had to be decided on penalty shoot-out.
Despite Cheikhou Ndiaye and Aimen Mahious both missing their opportunities from the spot, Senegal was still able to claim the trophy.
Algeria, meanwhile, established a new tournament record by going six games at the tournament without conceding.
