Communications director for the National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi, has described the NPP’s Assin North parliamentary candidate, Charles Opoku, as a “political prostitute,” claiming that he [Charles Opoku] wanted to run on the ticket of the NDC.
He noted that he has WhatsApp chats between NDC executives and Charles Opoku asking them to put Gyakye Quayson aside and allow him to run for the NDC
Speaking to journalists after accompanying James Gyakye Quayson to cast his vote, Sammy Gyamfi said he is confident their candidate will come out victorious.
He also added that Charles Opoku who does not vote in the Assin North constituency can not be a Member of Parliament for the area.
“Let’s leave it with the good people of Assin North to decide”, Sammy Gyamfi said.
Sammy Gyamfi stressed that the NDC could not have chosen any better candidate to contest other than James Gyakye Quayson.
“Since this constituency was created, no parliamentary and presidential candidate has had more votes than Gyakye Quayson, he is the most popular person in the constituency”, he added.
The Assin North by-election was a result of the Supreme Court nullifying the results of the 2020 parliamentary elections after finding the NDC’s candidate, James Gyakye Quayson guilty of dual citizenship while filling to contest in the 2020 polls.
The Supreme Court then ordered Parliament to expunge his name from its records leaving the seat vacant for a by-election.
