The sole sponsor for Chef Smith’s Cooking Marathon (Cook-a-thon) Guinness World Record (GWR) attempt, Amadia Shopping Center has revealed that Chef’s arrest was due to a breach of contract.
In a Facebook post, Chef Smith announced that “it’s with great pleasure and honour that we inform the general public and the media of the press conference of Millennium Chef Smith as he announces his results from the Guinness World Records for the longest cooking marathon by an individual at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Tuesday 2 July 2024.”
However, after the press conference, Chef Smith was arrested by the La Police station division led by the manager of Amadia Shopping Center, Nana Boroo.
Meanwhile, in a statement signed by the management of Amadia, they disclosed that, after the event, they made several attempts to reach out to Chef Smith’s team regarding the progress of video uploads and the Guinness World Record (GWR) response, but received no replies.
“On July 3, 2024, a flyer announced a press conference by Chef Smith at La Palm Royal Beach to disclose the outcome of his GWR attempt, without notifying Amadia Shopping Center, the main sponsor, in violation of the contract. The contract stipulated that the sponsor has the right of first refusal for any sponsored activities or project after the attempt”, the management of Amadia disclosed.
The statement further explained that the management of Amadia reached out to Chef Smith’s team about the press conference but was ignored and avoided entry to the auditorium for the event as well.
” Amadia Shopping Center’s management led by Nana Boro went to the La Palm Hotel to verify the authenticity of Chef Smith’s of GWR certificate due to concerns about their brand name about their corporate brand affiliated with Chef Smith.”
“To protect Amadia Shopping Center’s brand, management called the police to halt the press conference until Chef Smith could provide proof of the GWR certificate’s authenticity”, the management of Amadia added.
Management has therefore assured all Ghanaians of their commitment to support any individual aiming for GWR attempts to promote Ghana globally.
In furtherance to this brouhaha, the Guinness World Records has refuted claims suggesting that Ghana’s Chef Ebenezer Smith is the new record holder for longest cooking marathon by an individual.
“No, it is not true. It is not our certificate and he does not have Guinness World Record title… The one who holds the record now is Alan Fisher. So, he has 119 hours 57 minutes and 16 secs,” Madalyn Bielfeld PR manager of Guinness World Record.
