The Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Directorate of the Judicial Service has announced that the Chief Justice has declared the week beginning March 16, 2026, has been declared ADR Week.

The theme for the celebration is “Adoption of Innovation and Technology to enhance access to Justice Delivery through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)”.

According to Christiana Puorideme, Acting Deputy Director of ADR, the aim of the ADR Week is to engage the public on the presence of ADR within the court system and its importance in seeking justice.

“The rationale for the ADR Week is to afford the ADR Directorate of the Judicial Service the opportunity to engage the general public on the presence of ADR within the court system, its importance in seeking justice, and how to take advantage of such an important process for meaningful access to justice, especially for the poor and the vulnerable,” she said.

The ADR Week will feature a “Mass Mediation” Exercise, where court users with pending cases can opt for ADR.

One hundred and thirty-eight courts nationwide, including 35 Circuit Courts and 103 District Courts, will participate in the exercise.

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie will officially open the ADR Week at a press briefing at the High Court, Sunyani, in the Bono Region, on March 16, 2026.

The Judicial Service has adopted ADR as part of its adjudication process, dubbed “Court-Connected ADR”, to make access to justice easier, cheaper, and more flexible for all, particularly the underprivileged and vulnerable.

The ADR Week is expected to create awareness of the availability of ADR as a complement to the adjudication process in the courts.

The Bar, court users, media, and the public are encouraged to participate and cooperate with the Judicial Service to make the event a success.
