Chief of Staff, AG, Finance Minister, others lead Government’s transition team

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially appointed the government’s representatives for the Transition Team, as outlined by the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially appointed the government’s representatives for the Transition Team, as outlined by the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

The team, tasked with ensuring a smooth and effective transfer of executive authority, features high-ranking officials and experienced administrators.

The appointees to the Government side of the Transition Team include:

  • Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff (Head of Presidential Staff)
  • Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney-General
  • Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs
  • Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Minister of Finance
  • Hon. Henry Quartey, Minister of the Interior
  • Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, Minister of Defence
  • Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Minister of Local Government
  • Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security

Additionally, per Section 1 (2) of the Act, the following officials will also be part of the team:

  • Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Civil Service
  • Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Head of the Local Government Service
  • Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet
  • Mr. Edward Asomani, National Security Coordinator

The Transition Team will be inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in a meeting between President Akufo-Addo and the President-elect. The President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairperson of the team, has already announced his side of the team. In the absence of the President, Chief of Staff Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has been delegated to act as Co-Chairperson.

In line with Section 5 (1) of the Act, President Akufo-Addo has also appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council, with current Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin as the Chairperson.

The Transition Team is charged with ensuring a seamless transfer of executive authority to maintain stability and continuity in governance. President Akufo-Addo reiterated his dedication to strengthening Ghana’s democratic credentials through a smooth transition process.

This pivotal move underscores the administration’s commitment to upholding the nation’s democratic values during this period of change.
