A joint cooperative agreement has been formally signed by the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to register over 6.3 million children between the ages of 6 and 14.
The move by both parties is to provide children in the age bracket with access to quality healthcare and Ghana Cards from June 10, 2024.
The collaboration between the NHIA and the NIA is aimed at streamling administrative processes and expand the reach of social services.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye said “We recognize the importance of providing universal healthcare coverage and ensuring that every child in Ghana has access to essential services.”
He further added that, “by collaborating with the National Identification Authority, we are not only extending healthcare access but also laying the foundation for a more inclusive and empowered society.”
On his part, the Executive Secretary of the NIA, Dr. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah explained the role of the Ghana card as a fundamental tool for identity authentication and access to public services adding that “the issuance of Ghana cards to children aged between 6 and 14 years represents a pivotal step in safeguarding their rights and enabling their full participation in society,”
The NIA and the NHIA are therefore urging parents and guardians to ensure that their children are registered to receive the Ghana card, thereby securing their access to essential healthcare services and official identification.
