Late Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu is set to be laid to rest on March 17, 2023, with his final funeral rites to take place at theย Forecourt of the State House.

This was disclosed at his one-week celebration, which took place on Saturday at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf in Accra.

Atsu’s untimely demise occurred as a result of the earthquake that happened in Turkey and Syria in February 2023.

Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif who was in attendance said government will take care of the cost of the final funeral rites.

“The funeral is going to be a state funeral. Government is going to take over every cost, because of the contribution of Christian Atsu to the development of Ghana football, and at the same time the way and manner Christian Atsu passed on, is something that is devastating to everyone and then it is the only time we should come together as a country to give our brother, our son, a befitting burial.”

Other important personalities in attendance were President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, Former GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, Alan Kyeremanteng, some former Black Stars players including Sulley, Richard Kingston, Muntari, Agyemang Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah, John Mensah and many others.
